Drug Alcohol Treatment Centers
By Allan Wilson

An addictive drug is one that causes uncontrollable and compulsive drug craving, seeking and the use of the drug, even if one is aware of negative effects and social implications. A person starts getting physically dependent on such drugs or alcohol, requiring it to pursue even day-to-day activities.

In absence of availability of the alcohol or drugs, a person feels lost and irritated. The lack starts affecting the normal behavior and such a person just cannot function till he/she is able to take a shot of that particular drug. A person might also turn to crime to lay hands on the banned substance. The figures revealed via extensive research on the cases brought to the various drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers give a clear indication how deep the abuse has seeped into society.

An addiction usually starts from a single try, after which, the repeated use ultimately results in being addicted to the substance. An addict requires lot of strength and courage to accept that he/she is addicted. This is usually the first step towards de-addiction. However, addicts require lot of help and support, as well as love and acceptance to kick off the habit.

Treatment centers:

Approaching the drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers is the best way to get rid of addiction. There are various Rehabilitation Centers across the globe, which help addicts to give up the craving. An addict might choose the drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers either by self-will or forcefully, by the way of family or peer pressure or a court ruling.

The drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers help to bring about a change from the negative behavior and addiction, to a normal healthy lifestyle. Going through the procedures within the drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers involves a very emotional decision for the addict, as well as the family members and friends.
Withdrawals:

A rehab program will require great determination and constraint from the addict to come out of the addiction and stay drug or alcohol free. In many cases, after successfully coming out of addiction, a person succumbs again, after initial restraint ranging from few weeks to a couple of months. This is usually because addictive drugs remain as stresses in the fats of the body and they are released in small quantities into the blood stream if a person goes through stress or anxiety.

In the face of these “small kicks”, the body craves for more drugs or alcohol leading a person back into addiction. Every person that walks into a rehab center is a different individual, with different physical and psychological factors leading the condition and different reasons to use drugs or alcohol. Different people will have different addictions and hence, they cannot be treated in a same manner. It is the responsibility of the drug and alcohol rehabs or treatment centers to provide all possible support and motivation to an addict as well as provide all help and treatment, to lead a normal and healthy life.

  • The truth about rehab recovery statistics (An addiction to drugs or alcohol is incredibly resilient, and rehabs that boast of 80% or better success rates are either lying, or purposefully ignorant. These types of success rates are simply not currently possible, and any rehab that advertises such impressive figures should be regarded with great suspicions. Why 40% is more likely than 80%A relatively positive assessment of post rehab sobriety rates puts the figure at closer to a 40% success, and more conservative estimates have a figure even lower than that. Addiction is a disease, there is no cure, and all we can currently hope for is remission and symptoms management. While a 40% or worse success rate is not particularly encouraging, a quality drug or alcohol rehab still does offer addicts in recovery the best chance at achieving sobriety, and although many may need to attend a rehab twice, three times or more throughout life, the price of doing nothing is unfortunately far worse. And addicts looking to recovery should not look to the 6 out of 10 that may use again, but at the 4 out of 10 that use a brief period of rehab to transform their lives, achieve very difficult sobriety, and live a far better life without drug or alcohol abuse. An individuals motivation and determination to treatment, to participate actively in the therapies of rehab, to honestly soul search and self reflect on how to do better, and to stay with aftercare programming long after the end of rehab, has an enormous impact on the eventual success rates, and anyone who does all of these things during and after rehab has a great chance at beating an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Personal will and determination are intangibles, hard to quantify, but do exert considerable influence over the ultimate prognosis.Rehab is the best chance at sobrietySo although rehab is hard, it can be very expensive, and it offers nowhere close a guarantee; it is still worth doing, it does offer the best chance at sobriety, and a determined and committed addict in recovery can use the therapy, time of sobriety, and continuing access to aftercare programs to great effect.Remember that this is a problem for life, that addiction always threatens and beckons with temptation, and for a lot of people, a relapse or two is all a part of the process and progression of the disease. We can never hope to cure it, and we need to stay vigilant if we can even hope to control it. There are no perfect solutions, but a rehab and a 40% chance at success are actually pretty good odds.Be very careful with rehabs that boast too much. If they lie about that, what else are they lying about? )
  • Outpatient Rehab Principles (Unfortunately, addiction needs to be cured; a person suffering from an addiction cannot function properly in a society. The purpose of the rehab is to put the addicted back on their feet and help them re-integrate in the society, get a job and forget about the alcohol, drugs or the other substances that have brought them in the addictive state. Inpatient rehab is a very advantageous method to treat the addicted. But, many people do not afford going into a clinic and spending weeks maybe even months there. It is too expensive, and it takes a lot of time off. The solution for these patients is to take up outpatient rehab. If done seriously, the outpatient rehab can give excellent results as well. The outpatient rehab contains group sessions. You have to join a group, which is conducted by a doctor, and visit this group on a regular basis. Usually, these groups meet once or twice a week. As a rule, these groups are formed round one single addiction. So, those addicted to alcohol will meet in one group, those addicted to drugs in another and so on. In this manner, specific problems may be discussed. An alcohol addict is different form a drug addict and must be treated differently. During a therapy session you will be able to discuss issues linked to the addiction, things such as how to cope with the temptations, what are the difficulties that one faces when going out in the world, to work, to a bar etc., issues linked to family acceptance and so on. As a matter of fact, one can discuss just about everything that needs to get off of one's chest, so as to be able to continue staying sober or drug-free.The outpatient rehab has many plusses. On of them is that it really helps to meet people that face the same problems. Discussing these problems can make them seem easier to solve. You can make friends among the people who attend the same group as you. The doctor can help you, but other patients can help you as well. As a matter of fact, you can help other people too, and this feeling that you can do something will help you a lot in regaining your self esteem. )
