Constituents of a Detox Program
By Alet Viegas

Detox or detoxification is a process that is offered in a number of ways by rehab centers and also by self-discipline, it may refer to various different programs meant to remove all unwanted toxins from the body. Because of drug and alcohol addiction, drugs are stored in the body and trapped in the fatty tissues as well. For example, a recovering drug addict may decide to lose some weight. However the presence of toxins in the body fat and the weight loss will cause these substances to be released back into the bloodstream and set off a relapse. They can also cause just as much harm to the body as if the individual returned to abusing drugs. Removal of these toxins is very important and is the first step in treating drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and substance abuse. The presence of these toxins makes the individual crave for the drugs. There are a number of detox programs that are listed with many rehab centers, which are effective and successful. Some of the most successful drug rehabs in the nation use many therapies in tandem with each other. So the success of detox programs depends on the patient and his/her response to it and so there is no such idea of a good drug detox program.

The Process

The detoxifying process is time consuming, and involves long hours in a dry sauna, sweating the toxins out of the body. Along with this an organic diet, exercise and supplements help the patient in progressing to a drug free environment. Niacin, a constituent of the Vitamin B family is used safely and effectively during the detox treatment. The sauna is the most popular and advantageous drug detox program, and also an effective one. Like these there are many like hypnotherapy, hydrotherapy, medicinal etc. and all or a few are made to work together to make the detoxification successful and control the withdraw symptoms that occur because of stopping the drug intake. Sauna and everything else about it!

The sauna is a unique technique that removes all the chemical toxins in the body, these toxins are not only the drugs but also others that are inhaled through air or consumed when eating food. Even people not involved in drug abuse or any sort of addiction but only to sweat out the toxins that have entered the body by living a day-to-day life use this method. The Sauna is basically a steam room or a dry sauna as well. After a sauna detox, the diet of the patient is controlled by putting him/her on a fluid and organic diet. Previous detox programs were much more difficult, where the individual was put in a secure place till all the chemicals were washed out. This was more time consuming, difficult and unlike sauna they were less effective. However trained personnel, to ensure that it is carried out safely carefully monitor sauna detox and oneself should not do it since the process will not be understood.

The Key Ingredients

After the use of the sauna, which is to remove the trapped toxins in the fatty tissues it is necessary to replace the loss fluids in the patients body. An ingredient that helps in a number of ways in the detox program is Niacin; it has a long-standing effect of reducing the mobilization of fatty acids. The use of vitamins and minerals is necessary for replacing those lost during the sweating. Certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies are also seen because of the alcohol and drug abuse, or because of poor nutrition and the effect of the drugs as well. So the administration of vitamins and minerals is to fill these deficits and also to help in the metabolism of the chemicals. In addition to vitamin supplements, the patients are also given liquid supplements which is a required as there are extended periods of sweating. With this fluid supplementation, potassium, sodium, calcium-magnesium solution and cell salts are taken on an individual basis. The individuals that are a part of such detox programs are closely monitored to ensure that heat exhaustion and salt depletion do not affect them.

The diet of these patients also requires that they eat plenty of vegetables, and also that they are well rested since the removal of the toxins can stress the patients body. This method was studied and developed by L. Ron Hubbard and innovated upon with progress. A detox Program with key ingredients

This is one of the detox programs offered by Narconon Rehab Center and the program is known as The Narconon New Life Detoxification Program. It includes the following key steps for detoxifying the individuals body -

1. An exercise to promote circulation, running is preferred.

2. Use of low temperature saunas that will enable sweating that is the main method of detoxification.

3. Prescribed intake of vitamin, minerals and oil intake as well.

4. Adequate liquids to balance the loss of body fluids through sweating.

5. Standard diet that includes plenty of fresh vegetables that are not overcooked. Boiling is preferred.

6. A schedule for the patient so that he/she gets enough of sleep. Others There are many other detox programs that are available as well. But it is very important to see the method of detoxification; recent studies have proved that detoxification does not have to take place in captivity. Research has recognized that both pharmaceutical and so-called recreational drugs can remain in the body for an extended time. For example, marijuana is found in urine up to 77 days after use and cocaine is un-metabolized cocaine is found 5-10 days after the last use of the drug even though it is considered to be a rapidly metabolized drug. And to purify the body and mind, the recovering addicts need a volley of therapies that are individually modified to their needs and are required to be administered on a one-on-one basis.
