Alcohol Treatment Therapy in California

from:

by David Richards

California is often thought of as the leader in innovation solutions to both modern and historically problems. When it comes to treatment for alcoholism this tradition continues. They are in the forefront of developing cutting edge alcohol treatment therapy programs that are being adopted around the world to help curb addiction.Alcoholism known no age or class boundaries; everyone from children to senior citizens from all walks of life can be affected. Through innovative substance abuse programs such as specialized camps, licensed therapists and peer support groups many people are finding getting treatment for their addiction is easier and more supporting than ever before. Many people do not seek treatment for alcohol abuse because of concerns over the perception associated with attending many of the traditional abuse programs offered around the country. With these new addiction treatment programs it is now being looked up by many as the "right thing to do" and a "sign of strength" to be enrolled in such a support group. One of the more innovative programs introduced within the last few years is camps and treatment ranches where those seeking treatment go to be around licensed professionals who can help people identify their addiction and find ways to solve it. The programs combine traditional alcohol abuse treatment with relaxation and group-building exercises such as horseback riding, hiking and in some cases relieving the stress associated with breaking the addiction by taking that stress and turn it into good by building houses for low-income households.Alcoholism affects everyone in some way or another - either directly or indirectly by being a family member, co-worker or spouse of the person with the addiction. With new programs and positive reinforcement more people are beginning to seek treatment to help build a better future.

Paula Varela wanted to show me something. During a recent visit to her modest, well-kept South Phoenix home, the small, 79-year-old woman led me to a dining room next to the kitchen and turned on the light. Spread out on a table were at least 10 plaques featuring photos of various youth b...

Gorgeous saga, global crisis

Here's the short version of humanity's relationship with water, as delivered by hydrologist Jay Famiglietti in Jessica Yu's compelling and often gorgeous documentary "Last Call at the Oasis" : "We're screwed."
