The Types Of Drug Rehabs
By Alet Viegas

Introduction Drug Rehabilitation Centers are also known as Drug Rehabs and they facilitate and provide vital care for the drug addict during the treatment. Choosing the right drug rehabilitation or drug rehab center is a very important for the proper detox of the individual. Depending on the degree of addiction, social behavior and the drug of addiction there are different types of Drug Rehabs. NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) research shows that addiction is clearly treatable. The Rehabs have different treatment programs that include medicines to treat withdrawal symptoms, intensive counseling, and methods that attend to core causes of addiction. Every type of rehab has a similar beginning, generally in a medicine-inducing environment with the help of health professionals to chemically detoxify the system and make the individual independent from drugs.

Types Patients that have they treatment for three months or more tend to have a better success rate; over the last twenty-five years studies have proved that drug rehabs are more effective in reducing intake and crimes related to drug reliant people. In general, there are differences in the treatments in drug rehabs which vary from in-patient or residential, outpatient and a separate treatment center for alcohol addiction. The roads to rehabilitation for all are similar though, always initiated with detoxification, followed by therapy and finishes by incorporating them into a social environment.

In-Patient Rehab

In-patient treatment centers have controlled environments; with 24/7 supervision for the individual and this is the best benefit of attending an inpatient rehab. Another benefit of in-patient rehab is that it prevents the individual from being with other addicts and makes it easier to wane away from the addiction. Hardcore drug abuser generally go to in-patient rehab centers and is a last resort when all other methods of conquering the addiction have failed and has a better success rate. Since it keeps the patient busy and has the entire day planned out making the rehabilitation as easy as possible. The residential facilities also make it impossible for the former addict to get drugs in the center, helping in long-term recovery and structure support.

Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient rehabs are also designed to help individuals to restrain from drugs and alcohol and they use a variety of specialized methods to help. In involves group therapy, solving psychological problems, 12 step de-addiction programs like Narcotics Anonymous, and cognitive-behavioral therapy as well. Those individuals who have had a brief history of drug abuse take up the outpatient drug rehabs and the success rate is very dependent on the individual's commitment. The individuals do not live at the rehabilitation center as they would in a residential center but they live and work on their own, and meet at scheduled days. The outpatient programs differ from each rehab to the other, and also vary in types and the intensity as well. For the patients that have a low level of addiction there programs offer just a little more than drug education and counseling. But the other higher addictions include demanding day sessions and are leveled at inpatient programs in services and effectiveness.

The Rest

There are a few more unique drug rehabilitation centers that deal with other issues that pertain to the cause of addiction. The basic idea of such rehabilitation centers is to find the root origin of the individual who has suffered from a relapse. A relapse is the condition of an individual who is suffering from addiction of drugs after quitting the habit through self-discipline or a rehab. The reasons of relapse could vary from rift from family and friends, breakdown of the individual's support system, unemployment, mental illness, and living in a neighborhood where use of drugs is prevalent. Such rehabs are very sensitive to the condition of the individual and provide a holistic approach with halfway houses, community centers. This enables the individual to get advice, acquire better skills, and attempts are made to move him to another location.

These facilities allow the patients to reside in the rehab center for an extensive period of time that varies from six to twelve months. So this helps build the individuals confidence, making him independent and preventing him from returning to his addiction. What best works and for whom? The inpatient rehabs are best suited for anyone with a drug or alcohol addiction, especially if it is for some you love. It requires that the patients take a break from life and spend entire time on the facility for a certain period of time and this tends to give progressive and successful results. It removes all the distractions that tend to get in the way of the treatment; also it keeps a stress free environment that is very necessary for the individual. There is plenty of counseling and are safe houses that help in letting the patient concentrate only on getting well.

The Complete Basic Drug rehabilitation is a multi-stage, multi- faceted, time-consuming process and as earlier mentioned, detoxification is only the first step on the road of addiction treatment. Physical detoxification alone is not adequate to revolutionize the patterns of a drug addict. It also involves Emotional Detox and this is the most important detox for the patient. Emotional Detox needs to be delicately handled by rehab centers since the drugs are an integral part of the mental, emotional and social life.
