How to Abstain from Drugs

from: Though there are many preventive acts to not to abuse drugs, drug addictives number is increasing year by year. Once a person addicted to drugs, still there is a way to abstain him from abusing drugs. It is “Drug Addiction Treatment”.

There are many reasons why a person would need to attend a drug rehabilitation program. A few of the many reasons are: the inability to control their drinking or drug use, alienating their friends and family, legal problems, severe depression and general unhappiness due to excessive drug or alcohol use.

A drug rehab is a place or program that an individual enters in order to treat a drug or alcohol addiction problem. Through therapy and education, Individual's are rehabilitated using various treatment methods that enable them to lead a productive and drug free life.

There are many addictive drugs, and drug rehabs for specific drugs can differ. Drug rehab also varies depending on the specific needs of the patient. There are many different types of drug rehab programs available: in patient, outpatient, residential, short-term, and long-term. The initial step of drug or alcohol addiction treatment is drug detoxification.

In general, the more treatment received the greater the results. Drug and alcohol abusers who remain in treatment longer than 3 months typically have greater success than those who receive less treatment. Addicted individuals who undergo medically assisted drug or alcohol detox to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms but do not receive any further treatment, perform about the same in terms of their drug or alcohol use as those who are never treated at all.

Over the last 25 years, studies have shown that drug rehab treatment is very effective in reducing or eliminating drug and alcohol intake. Researchers also have found that drug abusers who have been through a treatment program are more likely to have greater stability generally in all aspects of life i.e. family, work, accomplishing personal goals etc.

Abuse of Rx and OTC medications is on par or higher than the abuse of illegal drugs such as Ecstasy (8 percent), cocaine/crack (10 percent), methamphetamine (8 percent) and heroin (5 percent).

For some individuals drug addiction treatment does not succeed at eliminating their addiction. This can result from a number of aspects of the drug addiction treatment together with the individual’s own character and personality type.

In addition to the duration of treatment, the type of drug rehab facility is an important factor as well. There are many different treatment modalities: therapeutic communities or residential treatment centers, Twelve Step, Drug Treatment, Sober Living, Drug Counseling, Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Narconon, and many more. The importance of correctly Diagnosing the individual and selecting the appropriate type of treatment option should not be underestimated as this may be the difference between success and failure in the recovery process.
